Re: the beginning of Internet addiction

Too funny @KitKat2306! It's so hard getting this 'cool' thing right isn't it. My daughter would've also said "you're so embarrassing mum!!" whilst rolling her eyes lol.

My daughter and her friends love sleepovers, but not having a son I wasn't sure about boys - now I know! Smiley LOL

Re: the beginning of Internet addiction

So, I need to update you, as I’m pretty chuffed.
14yo got off the plane Sunday morning from dads... everything seemed cool
I let him go a couple of hours before even bring up the whole internet thing.
I said to him “ we need to talk re’ internet”
He got sulky and said “ I know, dad’s already talked to me”
We went over everything
New rules are
PlayStation every second day
Max two hrs at a time.
No phones in bedroom at night
No phones or internet before school
And max 4 hrs on the weekend
No technology after 7:30
He said “ I want to talk about it”
I said “ it’s not open for discussion mate, just is what it is”
He went to beds in a huff.
I was dreading the morning.
Guess what!!!
All rules have been followed ( I know we are only 3 days in)
And he’s even come for a walk with me twice!!! And talked to me!!
I am truely stoked xxxxxx

Re: the beginning of Internet addiction

Hey @KitKat2306, enjoy the wins! That's fantastic news!

I can hear your excitement in the results so far, and I'm really happy for you both! It's actually a huge thing when they just accept the rules hey. He might just find there are other things in life he really enjoys doing too! I bet you're loving the communication Smiley Happy It's so good reconnecting with them again after tough times.

He'll no doubt have times when he resists, but as you did, remain calm and firm and he'll settle back down to the routine. Having two parents backing each other 100% has to have a strong impact too I'm sure!

Thank you so much for sharing your great news with us!

We're glad you found us too @KitKat2306! I'm so happy that you're feeling so much more confident. It makes a huge difference hey!

And I must apologise, I didn't mean to take anything away from your joy by adding in my part about if he has a wobbly. As @Ngaio-RO said, no matter about what happens in the future, it's so good to enjoy the times of peace!

Re: the beginning of Internet addiction

Oh no offence taken at all!!!
Yes no I agree, all baby steps.
He did ask me this morning what the rules are with the PlayStation tonight.
I’m just hoping to keep him busy.
I have brought yeast to make pizza from scratch for tea... oh dear... lol
And we have sheep so I need some help with them
Time will tell.
Have an awesome day

Keeping him busy is a great way to keep his mind occupied @KitKat2306! Home made pizza sounds like something fun and creative to do with him tonight. My brother and I used to make pizza from scratch when we were at high school - many years ago! We loved it though.

You're doing so well, he's lucky to have such a loving mum who wants to invest time in him.

We have our chat night tonight if you can make it. It goes for an hour from 8-9pm (EDST). Follow the link here if can join us, we'd love to see you there!
