Hi. I have been with my husband for about 10 years now and have a wonderful teenage stepson who we get several times a year. I love him dearly and would do anything for him. He talks about how home life doesn't seem so wonderful. He lives less than an hour away so sometimes we do get him for a random weekend. Lately I've been feeling guilty for wanting to spend some time alone or with my husband. Am I a bad stepmom for being ready for him to go back home even though the rest of the family wants him to stay?

Hey @AmIABadStepMom 

 

I can sense just by reading through your post that you are a loving step-mum. The genuine care and warmth is very clear. There is nothing wrong with needing time alone or quality time spent with your husband. 

 

I can imagine that hearing about your step sons living situation has probably contributed to feeling guilty but it's okay to have your needs as well.
