Has anyone here at Reach Out tried hynotherapy for any mental health disorders. My daughter has been struggling for about 18 months with generalised anxiety and over the last 6 months or so she has extreme mood swings. The symptoms I have definately noticed are more prominent the week before her periods, the week of and the coming days after. Then it is like my girl is back with her being more relaxed. The dr has just put her on depression medication to try even out her emotions but will take a couple of weeks to see if working. I am researching if this might help her with her peer relationships. I worry I will always be here for her through thick and thin but worry her mates won't tolerate her mood swings forever. ... View more

My 13 yr old daughter is out of control emotionally. I am trying my hardest to get her the help and support support she needs quickly She suffers anxiety and self esteem issues which I get but it is truly taking a toll on me health wise and other family members think she is just a brat. The profanities that she screams out think of the worst word and having that screamed out for the whole street to hear is becoming a bit much. Getting help is slow public or private. She had been seeing psychologist at headspace but things just have escalated. I love my girl and dont want to give up on her but gee she is really pushing boundaries. I have 2 older boys 16 & 26 that we havent done too badly raising them and they are both horrified the way there sister talks to me. I am not sure how much more I can endure 😔 ... View more

My 13 year old daughter has decided that she just wants to do what she wants, when she wants and how she wants without any boundaries or rules to follow. I have probably been a bit in denial trying to manage some of the pushing of boundary issues I have been experiencing as 'oh it her hormones kicking in' or 'this is normal teenage push back'. It came to a head yesterday when she decided that she wanted to leave school after first period to help a friends older sister do makeup and hair for her formal. I said no and that she could leave at sport time after lunch as I know she would not have participated in anyone although I was reluctant to allow even that. I was trying to meet half way IYKWIM. She left school before I told her to and then I get a series of text to tell me that she is not coming home that she needs space and that she was going to the formal. Weird I know. I suspect her new group of friends (new school) which seem nice enough kids and from discussions with her that she feels they really have her back emotionally and they are not **bleep** girls which is great however, I feel they are having a huge influence on her rebellion although they might not be directly telling her to do certain things it is like she wants to impress them perhaps. Her previous group of friends at her old school she was constantly in and out of friendships with them which caused huge amount of anxiety for her. I am just so confused as there was no argument or anything that would trigger this bigger reaction. I put it down to that she wants her way and she was going to get it by being a brat. She didn't go to school today and is going to stay at my sister in-laws tonight as she still thinks she needs space. I have not determined what actually she wants space from other than that she wants space from rules and boundaries. I attempted to explain to her that even as an adult I have to follow rules and boundaries and can't just do what I want when I want. I don't consider myself an overly strict parent maybe that is half my problem. I am so confused it is like a light bulb went off in her head and she decided that she doesn't need me anymore - WT.  I have said that she needs to come home tomorrow arvo so that we can start resolving what she is feeling unhappy about. My 13 year old daughter has been dealing with on and off peer group issues for a while. It is like her friend group are so hot and cold constantly friends one minute then telling her they hate her and calling her names. The most recent issue resulting in her feeling like she has no friends all because she supported one friend who now turned on her and became friends with a not so nice peer. So, now we are dealing again with school refusal. I have asked the school for work whilst we work through this and attempt to coerce her back to school. She is booked to see a psychologist for anxiety and self esteem issues in a couple of weeks which cant come soon enough. I am hoping she can give my daughter strategies to deal with the complexities of friendship groups. I feel so sad for her and question myself on what I have done or not done as a parent.
