I have a similar situation I’m dealing with Involving one of the two stepsons second marriage. The older one is 16 and has violent streak he has mental illness so that complicates things further. For approximately last five years since I met my wife it’s been a difficult time with his real father who gave up rights and abandoned both boys, trouble at school, out bursts and most recently an attack on myself. I felt hopeless and didn’t respond to the attack for fear I would be arrested. I did call the police and unfortunately he had to stay in the home because he’s a minor. He also has a problem with marijuana, CBD oil THC. He currently attends counseling and a behavioral specialist he’s been to inpatient on occasion. My wife is a successful nurse and knows all about these issues but there’s really no where to turn when these violent outbursts occur. I’m worried about the safety of myself and my family as my real kids come over here for visitation frequently. He has all types of knives and gadgets, small weapons etc. My biggest concern is if he attacks me again am I able to defend myself there’s really no good answer to that question it’s a gray area as I reside in Illinois. ...
