Teenage Grandson not coping in school

My grandson is 14 years old and struggles at school. He has been back at school for a week and his mum has received two emails from teachers saying he just sits in class and does not try to do the work required. This is not new but is now a major problem. On the plus side he is still going to high school.

He has been tested and has a low IQ and a processing disorder but does not get any help. Over the years he has had a private tutor but has not helped. Help needed please as this is effecting the whole family.

Re: Teenage Grandson not coping in school

Hi @Nanny55, I am so sorry to hear about the difficulties that your grandson is experiencing. That must be so challenging and upsetting for your family. You're right, it is great that he is attending school but it is concerning that he is not engaging with the work at all. You mentioned that he had some testing done. Are you still in touch with the professional that conducted the testing? Often recommendations are made which can help the child receive support tailored to their needs. Was this done in your situation? If not, it might be best to chat to a GP to explore your options. Also, the school might be able to offer some assistance in doing this too. There are numerous avenues to go down but counselling and further testing may be helpful. Please feel welcome to keep us updated Heart
