World Pride starts on 17th February and runs till 5th March this year, and what a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community with your family!
With so much happening, it can be difficult to know where to start! Here's some suggestions on how to get involved and connect with community, learn as a family, and support your LGBTQIA+ teens :
- Head to the Mardi Gras Fair Day where there'll be a First Nations Circle, entertainment, family picnic areas, and the Doggywood parade!
- If crowds aren't your thing, maybe enjoying a movie with the fam at the Mardi Gras Film Festival is more up your street.
- Queer Sporting Alliance have organised a basketball game followed by a roller disco, which sounds like a very fun way to get the family moving!
- There's also a whole lot of free events to check out too!
- You might like to take some time to learn more about LGBTQIA+ issues as a family, or see this as an opportunity to chat to your teen about their sexuality and gender identity. We have lots of resources to support you with this, you can check them out here and here.
- We also encourage you to reach out on our forums, and connect with the other parents and carers in the community for support
Let us know what you and your family have planned for World Pride below too!
It looks like you’re visiting us from a country other than Australia.
We are an Australian service and think you’d benefit more from looking up a similar service in your country.
You are welcome to look around the forums, but please don’t make an account or post, as we can’t offer you the help you may need.
Before you go ahead and post, you should know that we remove non-Australian accounts – not because we don’t want to help or connect with you, but because we may not be able to provide you with the service that you require.
