This week we are celebrating NAIDOC Week, a time to come together and recognise the achievements, history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Join us in sharing different ways of celebrating the oldest surviving culture on earth with your teen – be it attending cultural events, watching films, listening to music, reading books, tuning into podcasts or having conversations around the dinner table. Here are some of our tips!

  1. Spend the day at one of the many NAIDOC events taking place in your community. Enter your postcode and state into the search engine on the site to find out what’s happening in your area.
  2. Support Aboriginal-owned businesses, initiatives and organisations. You can search for indigenous-owned firms here and charities here
  3. Storytelling is a powerful tool for learning, understanding and community. Take some time out with your teen and watch TV or films by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creators.  Check out the best of NITV for free here.

Tell us, how did your family mark the occasion?
