It's great that she was able to talk to her guidance counsellor, even though she was having self harm urges. Does she have any tools for managing these urges when they pop up? We've included a lot of different articles already but there is another one here which discusses self harm and includes tips for managing urges. This might be a helpful article to read in case your daughter takes some time to open up during counselling

Hi @Rigbert and thank you for getting back to us. I'm sorry to hear that you're in this situation, it sounds incredibly stressful. I can hear how much care and love you have for your son and want to say just how lucky he is to have you in his life. It can be really hard knowing that your child has always had troubles with sleep and I imagine that's only made worse by being so far away from him. I wonder if he might be interested in creating and working towards a new routine? Do you think this might be something he might try? I am mindful of the impact this might be having on you and wonder what supports you have around yourself right now. Is there someone that you might feel comfortable talking to about this? We're all here for you.

Hi Daniel, 36yo, first time parent. My wife and I currently have a 3 month old daughter who is wonderful and takes us on a rollercoaster ride. Her smiles, chats and cheeky grin make us smile. I'm used to dealing with high stress situations, so if they're starting to peak I pop her down, move away for 5 minutes and breathe through whatever is frustrating me. I'm here because I'm looking for real advice, from people who have gone through it, not just some book that claims to know my child better than we do when every bit of advice is generic.

Hi @Elisemc, Thank you for reaching out and contributing to the Parents Forum, I'm sorry to hear your family hasn't been supportive of your wish to have your post-wedding ceremony lunch alone. It's your special day and if you would like to spend this time just with your partner and yourself, i think that is perfectly reasonable. What are your family's objections? Do you think you’d like to organise a lunch or dinner with them another day to celebrate your wedding?

Hi @Birdwings, Thank you for forwarding the article to your daughter and her friend’s mother. Hopefully they find the information to be useful. How was the conversation with your daughter in the car? I can imagine that would have been a heavy conversation for you both. I can see the conflict in trying to keep the incident under wraps to protect the young driver’s reputation but also everyone’s need to discuss and ease the trauma of the situation. It's very fortunate your daughter’s friends are all supporting one another, and you yourself are supporting your daughter and informing parents. That's very frightening! Hi @Tinkerkell I'm so sorry that you are continuing to deal with such a frustrating situation! It's clear that you have your stepdaughter’s best interests at heart but are facing roadblocks in your attempts to have her assessed for ADHD. It seems that you are dealing with this on your own - Have you considered seeking one-on-one support for yourself to help navigate this situation, or at least to help reduce the amount of stress this is causing you? Here is an online resource specifically for dealing with issues that come up within stepfamilies which may be useful for you. Take care
