Special Discussion: Top Tips: Communicating with Teens

It’s often said that communication is the key to a healthy relationship. While it might sound like tired advice, it’s a skill worth learning that will help us do better in all our relationships. As your child grows up, the way you communicate with them will need to change to reflect the new boundaries in your relationship created by their increasing independence. Discovering these new and different approaches to communicating effectively with one another will be a learning experience for you both. Effective communication with your teenager can help you both feel happier and more connected in your relationship, and more confident about having difficult conversations and resolving conflicts.

My best tip...

Isolate them.. in the bush is great (Camping/walking) or in the car (no phones!) anywhere they are not distracted by other things so you can get their interest and attention.

Like their Pa it is a waste of time trying to talk to them when they are distracted and have electronic devices.

ReachOut is going live Facebook on Tuesday the 1st of October 2019 at 5pm!

Our topic: Getting your teen to open up

Communication is the key to a healthy relationship, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. As our children go through puberty, become teenagers and then transition into young adults, there are a number of challenges all parents face, one of which is communication.

Hosted by Melissa Hoyer, this series of Facebook Live videos will see us gather experts in their fields to share their perspectives on communicating with teens (and, we’ll also include some young people so you can hear directly from them, too).

Join us on 𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝟱𝗽𝗺 for the first episode of this 5-part live-streamed video series, where we’ll explore how to figure out what’s going on with your teen. We’ve all been there – ‘how are you doing?’ and just a grunt in response. How can we get them to open up, when it seems like they don’t want to?

We'll be asking our experts your questions. Submit them ahead of time and join in the conversation live on the night.

Submit your questions here: www.ReachOut.click/Teens-Communication

Check out the facebook event below! We will be posting the link to the live chat during the event, so keep an eye out here!
