One thing I’ve found helpful is to have a conversation with my son as though I’m a consultant.  The way I do this is to ask what he wants and why, then outline clear expectations on how to get there.  For example, he wanted to buy a car and we sat down and came up with a plan.  I asked him what he would need and so we priced a car at about $5,000, then he came up with different ideas for jobs, and then we discussed how to get started.  I didn’t tell him what to do, I just helped guide him and talk through ideas. You make an interesting point and I wonder if the school had sought any advice?   The Principal did say they had done it in previous years, but all the students had been aware it wasn't real, and apparently this year was a massive oversight.   Either way, I know at that age, it would have had a major detrimental effect on my daughter if she had thought it was real. Good on you! I think knowing our kids are going to be where they say they will be is important. And well done for sticking to your guns, as your daughter has obviously learned that you mean what you say and say what you mean which is awesome.    And congrats on signing up for the coaching! I have no doubt you will get some valuable help. I have done it, and they work with your specific situation, so it's personally tailored which is great.    I'm with you - ridiculous if there are adults offering to host her party after she declined your offer. That would be really frustrating. You are most likely right about it just the kids talking (hopefully!).
