Weekly Wrap Up: 6th September 2019
This week we are celebrating members who have been courageous in sharing their experiences! Here are 3 highlights from this week:
1. This week we saw @InayaCare start a fantastic discussion about the importance of Self Advocacy skills for young people, particularly those with special needs or diverse experiences. With input from @Bre-RO and @JAKGR8, we are seeing the role parents have in supporting teens to advocate for themselves and their needs- such a crucial skill! You can contribute to this conversation here to share your thoughts and experiences. Thank you @InayaCare for a fantastic discussion!
2. This week we welcomed two new members who introduced themselves to our community in our New Member, Introduce yourself discussion. Welcome and thank you for making your first posts @Dot000 and @DSmum! Thank you to @PapaBill and @JAKGR8 for the warm welcomes!
3. @Newtothis2019 made a new discussion about interactions with her boyfriend's teen living in the home full time. We often hear from parents who are living with their partner's teens, or who are new to step parenting, and navigating the boundaries of that relationship. Check out this thread to share your thoughts, experiences and insights

Welcome to another Weekly Wrap Up!
We have another three posts to highlight in our community this week!
Ideas to support teens to reduce gaming times
The first weekly highlight goes to @VirginiaMum for this post sharing their experience of supporting their teen to reduce gaming and computer times. Fantastic suggestions and thank you for sharing your experiences!
Our Child and Family Professionals are here to answer questions!
This week we started a new activity of the forums; Ask a Child and Family Professional a question. Every Thursday our Professionals will be answering a question submitted by parents in this forum community. If you have a question you would like to ask, you can submit it here! Keep an eye on this section of the forums for posts from our professionals.
Sharing courageously and seeking support from other parents when things are hard at home:
The third weekly highlight goes to one of our newest members @dka70. Your openness to share your story and willingness to come online to seek support through such a challenging few years for your family is so courageous! We really admire the endless support and continual hope that you have held for your daughter these last few years. We are holding hope with you and here to lend a listening ear.

Hello Parents Community and welcome to another weekly wrap up! We will be adding a few more shout outs today for last week's posts too!
The first post I want to celebrate today is @PapaBill's response to @Spainh1 here about setting boundaries and consequences in the lead up to Christmas. Whether or not to give presents at Christmas based on behaviour throughout the year can be a hard choice to make, and the suggestion around ensuring teens understand 'the why' of the decision was a good one! I am sure in the coming weeks many parents will be having this conversation, so thank you @Spainh1 for reaching out to ask the tough questions about gift giving.
@Alohamom the question here about how to encourage their son to make new friends. Teenage friendships can be tough to navigate, and we know that this is a topic that so many parents can relate to. Thank you for reaching out to raise your concerns. We are always here to chat when you need a listening ear
@dad80dad80 made a discussion topic to see what concerns impact parents most, and keep you up at night. If you have a concern you would like to share, you can join the conversation here
Our Professionals have also answered a new question this week- "What can I do when my teen won’t go to school (legal responsibility)?" You can see their response here
And that is a wrap for this week! Looking forward to highlighting more discussions next Friday

And the third shout out this week is for one of our newest members, @lunetika , who asked a question our parents community might be interested to answer here. Thank you for reaching out!

Also, @JAKGR8 for your response to @lookingforhlp28 too! Knowing somewhere is there and hears how you are feeling is so powerful!
And the last shout out this week is for one brave member who came online to seek support for their son. @Penguin5, we are hearing how much your family is going through supporting your son through panic attacks- we really appreciate that you reached out to us here! It looks like you’re visiting us from a country other than Australia.
We are an Australian service and think you’d benefit more from looking up a similar service in your country.
You are welcome to look around the forums, but please don’t make an account or post, as we can’t offer you the help you may need.
Before you go ahead and post, you should know that we remove non-Australian accounts – not because we don’t want to help or connect with you, but because we may not be able to provide you with the service that you require.
